Building in Castle Rock
The land shapes the home.
The corridor between Colorado Springs and Denver — Castle Rock, Parker, Larkspur, Elbert, and Elizabeth — is rolling meadow and scrub-oak country, with room to spread out and easy access to both metros. It’s a popular place to build a custom home, and a place where getting the groundwork right matters.
Much of this area carries expansive soils, so a proper soils report and an engineered foundation aren’t optional — they’re how a home stays true over the decades. Permitting also shifts from Douglas County to Elbert County, and the rules and timelines are not the same on either side of the line. We plan for both from the start so there are no surprises.
However the lot sits, we work the same way: read the site, test the soils, design the home to the land and the budget, and stay accountable as one team through the whole build.

What it's like to work with us
Their homes are unique. They will customize the home to the individual. I hired Stauffer & Sons Construction because they showed great concern about building what I wanted and everything was explained. All the others didn’t discuss my preferences or offered a “take it or leave it” design and contract. My favorite part of my new home is the space, openness and overall construction and floor plan.
We are satisfied with Stauffer and Sons. I am very satisfied with the construction quality. We hired Andy because he seemed very knowledgeable and trustworthy. The experience he had with million dollar homes was another reason we trusted him to handle ours. We would recommend them to other people.
Building in Castle Rock — common questions
Why do expansive soils matter when building near Castle Rock and Parker?
Expansive (bentonite-bearing) soils swell and shrink with moisture, which can move a foundation that wasn’t designed for it. We start with a soils report and use an engineered foundation suited to what the report finds — the single most important thing you can do for a home’s long-term integrity here.
Do you handle permitting in both Douglas and Elbert County?
Yes. Requirements, fees, and timelines differ between the counties (and between jurisdictions within them), and we plan for the specific one your lot falls in.
What it's like to work with us
One team, wherever your land is.
No matter which region your lot is in, the way we work is the same: one team designing and building your home, reading the site before we draw, and staying with you from the first conversation to the final walk-through. See how we design and build →
