Timber packages & collaborations
The Timber Package, Done Right
Fabrication and installation of timber frames, trusses, and heavy-timber structures — for our own homes, for other builders' projects, and for timber companies that need an experienced Colorado partner.
Who this is for
You don’t have to be our client to hire our timber crew.
Timber has run through our work for decades — complete timber-frame packages on estate projects, log homesteads built from trees milled on our own sawmill, heavy-timber pavilions and barns. Most of it goes into homes we design and build ourselves, but not all of it. We take on the timber scope three ways: as the design-build firm on our own timber homes; as the timber-package partner for other builders and owner-builders who want the frame fabricated and installed by people who do it constantly; and as the Colorado installer for timber-frame manufacturers whose clients need a builder who already speaks their language. Clients have found us through River Bend Timber Frames, which counted Stauffer & Sons among its builders — and picked us because one team could carry both the design and the build.
Why it takes the right team
Timber goes way beyond the structure itself.
When timber enters a project, everything around it changes: foundations carry point loads, electrical has to route through exposed structure, siding and roofing meet the frame differently — it’s a different animal than conventional stick framing. If you’re investing in timber, you need the team that has lived those implications, not one discovering them on your project. We’ve gone as far as running our own sawmill operation — milling logs on site, from British Columbia timber down to fire-killed ponderosas turned into finished buildings.

The record
Timber scopes we’ve carried — on our jobs and on others’.
The complete timber-frame package on a Broadmoor estate under one of the country’s largest builders. The entire shell — framing, log and timber fabrication and installation — for an owner-builder’s Black Forest homestead. A heavy-timber pavilion with a full outdoor kitchen in Parker. Every one is a working reference.
Beyond the house
Pavilions, gazebos, barns — timber structures of every scale.
Timber packages aren’t only whole-home frames. We’ve built gazebos and pavilions into timber scopes, restored a century-old farm barn with lumber we milled ourselves, and served as general contractor for Black Forest’s community pavilion. If it’s heavy timber — joined, exposed, and meant to stand — it’s our kind of work.

In their words
What it's like to work with us
My husband and I live in Florida, and we purchased thirty-eight acres of land in Cuchara (Southern Colorado) seven years ago. We decided that we really wanted a custom-built timber frame home on our property, and after investigating General Contractors on the Internet and in magazines, we came out to Denver to attend a Log and Timber Home Show where we met Stauffer & Sons Construction. Stauffer & Sons was able to take our ideas and desires and design the perfect home for us. Andy Stauffer was always responsive to our questions and, using his experience, helped us get the maximum timber frame look while staying within our budget. Our Project Manager, Mike, was also a great asset in keeping the project on schedule and making sure the work was done right. Our home is warm, well constructed, and has that “WOW” factor of huge timbers, a great view, and a large, open feel to it.
