Broadmoor Timber Estate

We’ll say this plainly, because it matters to us: we were not the general contractor on this home. It’s something we’re just as proud of — the project that showed us what the very top of the craft looks like.

Clifford Taylor Architects brought us to the table. The build was led by Weitz — one of the largest construction companies in the country — in partnership with Norris Homes of Aspen, and our scope was the heart of the architecture: all of the framing and the complete timber-frame package for an Arts & Crafts estate in the Greene & Greene tradition, the style where the structure itself is the ornament — joined, exposed, and left in view.

Our shop ran a crew of craftsmen full-time for the better part of a year fabricating the timber work, while a field crew of eight to twelve framed and installed on site. We came in on time and on budget, to the satisfaction of the builder and the homeowner — and spent hundreds of hours in the offices of the architects and structural engineers along the way, working out how the drawings would actually go together. Andy was barely into his thirties.

“I remember standing in front of the finished house,” he says, “looking up at what we’d created together, and thinking: I might go my whole career and never have a project that even approaches this.”
